Agreement and eligibility

These Terms apply to the Settle The Tab website, web app, iOS app, and related services. They are an agreement between you and the individual developer identified as the seller of Settle The Tab in the App Store (the “operator”). Creating an account or using the service means you agree to these Terms and the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

You must be at least 13 and legally allowed to use the service. If you are below the age of legal adulthood where you live, use the service only with permission from a parent or legal guardian who has reviewed these Terms.

What Settle The Tab does

Settle The Tab helps groups record expenses, identify who paid, divide amounts, attach receipts, calculate balances, and record cash settlements. Simply Settle can suggest fewer repayments while preserving each person's calculated net position.

The service does not move money. A paid, settled, or cash entry is a statement entered by a user, not confirmation from a bank or payment network. Settle The Tab is not a bank, wallet, escrow service, payment processor, debt collector, accountant, tax adviser, or financial adviser.

Balances depend on information entered by group members. The service does not verify a purchase, decide whether a charge is fair, guarantee repayment, enforce a debt, or resolve a personal dispute. Review the underlying records and reach your own agreement before paying.

Accounts and shared groups

  • Provide accurate information and use only an email address or sign-in identity you are authorized to use.
  • Protect your password, device, browser profile, sessions, and AI API key. Tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorized access.
  • Invite only people you have a legitimate reason to contact. Do not use invitations or reminders to harass, impersonate, or spam.
  • Check group membership before adding private notes or receipts. Authorized members may save or export what they can see.
  • Review amounts, currencies, payers, participants, and settlements for accuracy before treating a group balance as final.

Group owners and administrators manage membership and some settings, but they are not agents of the operator. Removing a member or deleting an account does not rewrite what other members historically paid or owed.

Your entries and receipts

You keep ownership of information and files you submit. You give the service a limited, non-exclusive permission to store, process, copy, back up, synchronize, and display them only as needed to operate and secure the service, provide exports, and make group content available to authorized members.

You are responsible for making sure that:

  • You have the right and any necessary permission to upload a receipt or include another person's name or purchase details.
  • Your content does not violate law, intellectual-property rights, privacy rights, or a duty you owe another person.
  • You avoid unnecessary sensitive content, including full payment card numbers, bank credentials, government identifiers, medical information, passwords, and access codes.

We may remove or restrict unlawful, unsafe, or abusive content. We do not review every ledger entry or receipt before it is stored or shared.

Acceptable use

Do not use Settle The Tab to:

  • Break the law, facilitate fraud, launder money, or hide prohibited transactions.
  • Threaten, stalk, harass, deceive, impersonate, or expose another person's private information.
  • Access another account, group, receipt, or system without clear authorization.
  • Upload malware or illegal content, disrupt or overload the service, bypass security controls, scrape private data, or send spam.
  • Operate a commercial debt-collection, lending, escrow, payment-processing, or regulated financial service through a personal shared ledger.

We may rate-limit, suspend, or end access when reasonably necessary to protect people, the service, or legal compliance. Where safe and practical, we will explain the reason and provide a way to ask for review.

Availability and changes

The app can accept changes without a connection, but a local change is not the same as server acceptance. A change may remain queued, fail validation, be rejected after permissions change, or conflict with another edit. Clearing browser data, deleting the app, restoring a device, or losing a device can erase changes that have not synchronized.

We aim for a dependable service but do not promise uninterrupted or error-free availability. Maintenance, network failures, security events, third-party outages, or product changes may interrupt a feature. We may modify or discontinue a feature with reasonable notice where practical and will prioritize access to available export tools before a planned shutdown.

The current service has no subscription or in-app purchase. Any later optional paid feature or payment integration will have clear pricing and additional terms before you choose it.

Leaving or deleting an account

You can initiate permanent account deletion from Settings. Deletion revokes sessions and delegated API keys and removes or de-identifies personal account data that is no longer needed. Shared ledger facts may remain under a de-identified participant label so other members' accounting history remains accurate. The Privacy Policy explains retention and backup timing.

We may end an account for serious or repeated violations, urgent security risk, legal requirements, or service closure. Where allowed and safe, we will provide notice and an opportunity to export appropriate available data.

Disclaimers and limits

To the fullest extent applicable law permits, the service is provided “as is” and “as available.” We do not promise uninterrupted operation, error-free data, repayment, enforceability of an expense, a particular tax or accounting result, or fitness for a special purpose. Nothing in these Terms excludes a warranty or consumer right that applicable law does not allow us to exclude.

You are responsible for reviewing the ledger and keeping any independent records you need. To the fullest extent law permits, the operator is not responsible for indirect, incidental, special, exemplary, or consequential loss, lost profits or goodwill, loss of data, or disagreements between group members arising from use of the service. These limits do not apply where the law prohibits them.

Legal terms and contact

These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the agreement for the service. If one part is unenforceable, the remaining parts continue. A delay in enforcing a term is not a waiver. You may not transfer your account or this agreement without permission.

Applicable law governs these Terms without removing mandatory consumer protections that apply where you live. Any dispute may be brought in a court that has jurisdiction under applicable law. These Terms do not require private arbitration.

We may update these Terms when the service or law changes. Material changes will be identified by a new date and, where appropriate, notice in the service or by email. Questions can be sent to support@settlethetab.com.
